Water main break closes part of Cheyenne Avenue in NLV

KSNV coverage of water main break that closed a stretch of Cheyenne Avenue in North Las Vegas, Aug. 6, 2011.

A water main break prompted officials to close Cheyenne Avenue between Clayton Street and Simmons Street late Saturday afternoon in North Las Vegas. Officials expect the road to be closed through the night and possibly Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said it’s not clear why the water main broke.

“There is a significant water utility line break underneath the road,” she said. “The road is buckled a little bit and water is spilling out.”

The city will shut down the water later this evening to fix the break. Businesses on the north side and residents on the south side of Cheyenne Avennue may be without water, officials said.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of Cheyenne will remain closed until the break is repaired.
