Authorities on Thursday morning were trying to rescue a man sitting on a structure attaching a road sign to the Harmon Avenue overpass on U.S. 95, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The situation prompted the closure of the northbound lanes of the highway between Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue, Trooper Loy Hixson said. One southbound lane of U.S. 95 was also shut down, he said, but the road has since reopened.

Hixson said initial reports indicated the man was dangling from the overpass. Authorities said the man might have been threatening to commit suicide.

The situation began at about 10:30 a.m. Metro Police and fire crews have responded to assist, Hixson said.
