New bus turnout to ease congestion along Green Valley Parkway

Bus turnout

Traffic along Green Valley Parkway near Sunset Road should flow a bit easier once a new bus turnout is built later this year, but a partial lane closure to complete the project means traffic will likely get worse before it can get better.

The $70,000 bus pullout lane will be located along southbound Green Valley Parkway near Sunset Road in front of Green Valley Library. The Henderson City Council approved the construction contract at their Tuesday meeting and the project should be finished by the end of the year.

Public Works engineer Alyssa Reynolds said Green Valley Parkway is one of the busiest roads in Henderson and also handles a high volume of buses. The turnout will allow buses to pick up and drop off passengers without impeding traffic.

"This will allow cars to pass by without having to stop. It will have a big impact on traffic flow," she said.

Construction of the bus turnout, which is currently in the early stages, will eventually force a partial closure of the outside lane on southbound Green Valley Parkway.

Residents can check for the closure and all other roadwork in Henderson on the city's website.
