Man sought after stabbing woman in chest with screwdriver

Metro Police are searching for a man who they say stabbed a woman with a screwdriver in a northwest valley residence this morning.

Police said the incident happened at 10:49 a.m. at a home in the 7000 block of Gowan Road. A child in the home called police to report a domestic disturbance, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

When police arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver, police said. She was conscious and taken to a hospital.

The child was found inside the residence and hadn't been harmed, Meltzer said.

The man had left the area in a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire with Nevada license plate 254WVP, police said. The car is possibly blue.

Authorities described the man as white, about 63 years old, with black and gray hair. He was wearing a black shirt and black track pants.

Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous because the screwdriver might still be in his possession. Authorities are investigating whether he traveled toward California, where he has family, Meltzer said.

Anyone with information about possible sightings is asked to call 911 or 311, or contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
