A 56-year-old man died in his one-inmate cell Sunday at the North Las Vegas Detention Center by hanging himself, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.
The coroner identified him as Walter Eugene Waters, a North Las Vegas resident. His death was ruled a suicide.
Authorities said corrections officers found Waters, who was being held on a misdemeanor charge, dead in his cell at 7:20 a.m. Sunday.
Detectives said the preliminary investigation indicates the man possibly committed suicide after 6:30 a.m.
Police spokesman Timothy Bedwell said Waters was in the single-inmate cell at his own request.
