Governor meets with Nevada troops during Iraq visit

Gov. Brian Sandoval is in Iraq this week, his third trip out of state in the past month. Sandoval is with a delegation of governors on a trip sponsored by the Defense Department.

He said he visited with soldiers from Nevada who "were extremely glad to see him." He toured the Ali Al Salem Air Base and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. He also visited the air base in Baghdad.

He left Monday and will be back this weekend. His office said his arrival time is being kept a secret for security reasons.

Last month he went to Florida to give a speech and then to Washington, D.C., to meet with federal officials.

After his return, he traveled to Colorado to attend a governors conference.

Dale Erquiaga, Sandoval's senior adviser, said he was in Las Vegas for two days last week.

"He's still doing the people's business even though he's not sitting behind a desk," Erquiaga said.

The governor's office announced a newly designed website for the state today, even though Sandoval wasn't in Carson City to kick it off.

And he still will be traveling Friday when he observes his 48th birthday.
