LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Tax increases would lead to layoffs

Regarding Richard J. Mundy’s Friday letter to the editor, headlined “People should come before corporations”:

Gov. Brian Sandoval said no to new taxes because Nevada citizens can’t afford more taxes. We are broke and raising taxes again and again is not the answer.

Mr. Mundy wants to raise taxes on the casinos. But look at how many are closed or on the way out. Every time one of the casino properties shuts its doors, workers are laid off. The local and state governments lose revenue, the workers lose their jobs and then their houses, their automobiles, and so on and so on.

Democratic legislators are the problem. When times are good, they create more and more programs, then when times are bad, they want the taxpayers to keep these programs funded, come hell or high water.

The citizens of Nevada elected a governor who promised no new taxes. We expect the governor to keep his word, especially for our children.
