Approximate area of crash

A man from Idaho died while riding his motorcycle on rural U.S. 93 Thursday night after his bike collided with a truck pulling a horse trailer, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

Officials responded to the accident at 9 p.m. in Clark County about 15 miles north of the Interstate 15/U.S. 93 interchange, Trooper Joseph Fackrell said. After the accident, U.S. 93 was shut down in both directions.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victim as David Short, 41, of Filer, Idaho. He was traveling southbound on U.S. 93 at the time of the incident, said Trooper Chelita Rojas. She said the accident occurred when Short tried to pass another vehicle that was also traveling in the southbound lanes.

When Short entered the northbound lanes to complete the pass, he struck the front-left side of the northbound trailer, she said. It appeared that the truck driver had tried to swerve out of his path, she said.

Short was dead when officials arrived, Rojas said.

After the accident, a tractor-trailor southbound on U.S. 93 struck the motorcycle, Rojas said. The motorcycle then caught fire.
