Five people were rescued from Lake Mohave on Friday morning after their boat hit a rock and ran aground late Thursday, the National Park Service said.

Three people on the boat, a 65-year-old man, a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas because of their injuries, which included broken bones, park spokesman Andrew Munoz said.

The boat crashed about 10:30 p.m. Thursday night near mile marker 47 on the Colorado River, which is about 18 miles south of Hoover Dam.

At least one person was thrown from the boat in the collision. The five boaters stayed on the shore until they were noticed by houseboaters, who called for help, Munoz said.

The nature of the injuries and the steep, rocky shoreline complicated rescue efforts, Munoz said.

The Willow Beach launch ramp was closed for about three hours while the rescue took place, but has since reopened.
