Court seeks volunteers for CASA program

Clark County District Court is seeking volunteers to assist children in the foster care system for its Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, program.

Volunteers are appointed to ensure that children’s needs are met in foster care until they find some kind of permanency – whether it is reunification with parents, guardianship, adoption or transition to independent living, according to a statement from the court.

The volunteers interact with the children, listen to their fears and hopes and offer support through difficult transitions.

Clark County has 240 volunteer to represent about 600 of the 3,000 children in the county’s foster care system. Because of its short numbers, the statement said, CASA focuses on abused and neglected children, but the goal is to provide an advocate for every foster child.

CASA volunteers are screened and trained before entering the program. Interested people can email the program’s administrator, Sheila Parks, at [email protected] or call 702-455-4306 for more information.
