LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Enough already: Let’s shelve the negative TV ads
Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 | 2:02 a.m.
I find it discouraging and confusing that Sen. Harry Reid, who is vying for a fifth term, considers it appropriate that the way to get elected is by disparaging and belittling a lesser-known candidate.
After 23-plus years in the Senate, he should get elected easily on the basis of his achievements. Why is it that after what he has done for the state and the country, he is having such a difficult time being elected?
Instead of negative ads it would befit him to reflect on his long-term accomplishments and on his future plans that benefit not only the state but the country.
My request regarding the negative ads is not directed toward just Reid but also other candidates. Enough of the negatives — the American people are much smarter than you think and can easily sift through the obfuscating messages directed toward them.
Tell us what you are going to do and how you are going to do it.

Sen. Reid should have quit when he was ahead.
His public service has gone sour. He no longer works for the people, he works for himself and for Obama and Pelosi. The corruption associated with this administration in intolerable and Reid's participation in it is unacceptable.
Trying to cover it up with negative ads designed to destroy the opposition is equally unacceptable.
Subhas Dhodapkar say "I find it discouraging and confusing that Sen. Harry Reid, who is vying for a fifth term, considers it appropriate that the way to get elected is by disparaging and belittling a lesser-known candidate."
Harry Reid,
Nancy Pelosi,
Chris Dodd,
Charley Rangel,
Barney Frank, and
Senator Barack Obama
Have had TOTAL control of Congress since January 2007.
Yes we are confused - All that time and NOTHING positive to run on.
Sen. Reid happens to be running against a lunatic.
He's doing Nevadans a great service by warning us of the dangers of electing an unhinged extremist like Angle.
All the sudden Harry Reid is concerned with us poor folks in Nevada. He wasn't thinking of us when he engineered all those special deals for Nebraska, Louisiana, and Florida while pushing through the soon to be defunct Health Care Bill.
He gave those states free money to pay all their Medicare costs, some of them forever.
Now that he's going to be flushed from office he wants our support. He watched while Nevada reached the greatest unemployment percentage numbers. The only people that will vote for him are the sheep that read and write on these pages. They'll all be up soon. They will rebut with a vengeance. They know they are in deep doo doo.

Nice is not interesting nor fun and does not sell
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Reid is mostly a target of bigots and hate, because he certainly done a lot for the state and the nation
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Name one single thing Angle has done for the state and name one single thing good that she would do for the nation ..... can't. She is a destroyer like AWOLBush .... a lap dog who is a robot member of the flock , bought and paid for.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Have a good one !
well when the candidate you are running against couldn't be further right just telling the truth will seem negative.
5 Years in prision for any person lying to the public in a political add might clean this up.
I'm against those people with all that corporate happy talk. Perhaps if we went negative in 2003 we would not be in Iraq.Welcome to the real world in which one wins a state wide election in Nevada by only a few thousand votes. This is not Victorian England where a aristocracy inherited their positions and didn't need to struggle.
If you don't like the Ad's perhaps you should not elect a right wing wacko in the primary??
Ya nez I agree-
Plus loss of citizenship for people who think Angle and Palin and the other teaparty candidates are good political choices.
We could then fix the immigration problem-we just award that citizenship to an immigrant who might actually pay attention!
Nice letter, and I feel the exact same way. For all of you that bank on the half truths ... good luck, the sleeping giant was awakened last year and appears to be fully engaged.
You conservative's and your hypocrisy-truly amazing!
Reid showing Angle being Angle is "lies and smear".
Rove changing American history with the "black baby" accusation against McCain in South Carolina was just politics huh?
Cheney and Bush lie us into war-and all is forgiven. You even wanted Obama to give Bush credit for the surge! The surge would not have been needed at all-had they managed the war properly.
We were lied into the war with the WMD nonsense-4400+ KIA's 31,000+ WIA. They were not just killed and wounded in battles-they were blown apart-AFTER the "mission accomplished" speech. And after the now infamous statement by Cheney-"the insurgency is in it's last throes" But that does not bother you righties?
What bothers you is Reid's statement. INCREDIBLE!
Its not like he can run on his record or anything.
Sharron Angle is mentally ill and should not be serving in government or, for that matter, in any capacity that requires rational, reality-based thinking.
The Reid campaign is telling voters about her loony plans. So what? Angle ought to be happy she's getting so much free publicity.
Subhas - Please don't give him any help. These character assassination ads are back firing. Let him keep firing away. Here is a new one.
Hi, I am Harry Reid and I approve this message. Did you know that in 1975 Sharron Angle was mean to bees because they stung one of her younger children ? Please don't elect this extremist woman.
By the way, Don't check out the unemployment rate here in Nevada - I don't want Nevada voters to know anything about my record.
Sharon Angle acts like the evil spawn of Joseph Stalin. Tommey says that Corporations shouldn't be taxed at all. God save us from these purveyors of Tea !!
Subhas -"Tell us what you are going to do and how you are going to do it."
Reid can't tell you because he has no clue. This is why you get the $25 Million of character assassinations ads against a good woman. God forbid we elect a "right wing extremist" just because she goes to church on Sunday and prays daily. Oh my God - Run - Hide the children.
This is the easiest vote I may ever make in my life. People actually expect me to vote for a completely incompetent fool over a woman that proven to be very effective in her previous employment ? EASY EASY EASY Vote - Vote for Sharron Angle unless you are leeching off the government and need free handouts. Then I can understand your vote for Reid.
Angle's supporters, all 5 of them, are INCENSED that her opponent would "stoop" to such tactics as REPEATING VERBATIM her stand on the ISSUES IMPORTANT TO VOTERS.
That, in essence, is what the letter writer is trying to pull...
"Oh, that Harry, he's running a 'dirty' campaign".
NONSENSE.
The unique ability of the Reid Campaign to use "Crazy" Angle's OWN RHETORIC, captured in all it's glory on video and audio, to show how OUTLANDISH & BIZARRE the
Crazy Cat Lady is, cannot be held against Senator Reid.
It should, however, be held against Sharron Angle.
You are what your actions say you are; EXTREME, MEAN, & an AD Agency's DREAM!!!
...and using gbigs as "Crazy" Angle's Cheerleader
is NOT GOING TO WORK.
It's all SMOKE & MIRRORS, folks.
Misdirection & Subterfuge.
Stuff & Nonsense.
Balderdash!
Hogwash!
Made Up Junk.
It's the FOX FORMULA, kids;
Take a kernel of truth, mix it up with a bowl of whopper LIES, stir vigorously, bake for 30 minutes, present to sheeple as THE GOD'S HONEST TRUTH...
The NutJobs need a NEW RECIPE BOOK.
@gbigs -- That is what incompetents like Harry Reid do. They look of for other people to blame for the disasters they created. Everyone sees through this. The boy Harry is the disaster
And Sharron Angle's ads are positive? Most all of her ads or the ads promoting her paid for by out of state PACs are totally negative and full of total lies and falsehoods.
Sharron Angle's husband receives a substantial government pension each month thanks his years of employment with the BLM, as well as the generosity of American taxpayers and the union representatives who negotiated for a fair retirement plan on Mr. Angle's behalf.
So why does Sharron Angle hate government (except the BLM, of course) when, for several decades, her family's livelihood depended on Mr. Angle's income from the BLM?
Another Crazy Angle mystery. Like massages for prison inmates and her treasonous Second Amendment remedy.
The ads supporting Senator Harry Reid, and the ones against "Lemons to Lemonade Angle" are true.
"Lemons to Lemonade Angle" has spoken all those words earlier, that is now being used against her.
A recent poll stated that approximately 67% of her supporters wish they had another candidate other than Angle.
Sharron Elaine Angle is mentally ill, and if you would just stop for a few minutes and think, you, would know that. She cannot even keep her sentences connected, even when they are just one or two sentence away from the original sentence. Also, watch her face--her expressions are out of context with her statements.
Will government-haters Mr. and Mrs. Angle refund to taxpayers the substancial retirement pension funds they've been recieving for some time now?
Doubtful. In fact, chances are slim and none.
That Angle klan sure loves sucking at the Big Government teet and drinking all that fresh, creamy taxpayer milk. Ummmm...GOOD!
Crazy teabaggers have NO CHANCE in November.
Greedy, crazy republicans should be kept out
of power as long as possible.
Greedy republican thieves and crooks ruined
our economy and got booted out of the
White House for that reason.

Now, about that filthy man Harry Reid:
This is to voice my dissatisfaction with Sen. Harry Reid's agendas. First, the misinformation: Harry suggests that he can achieve his goals by friendly and moral debate. Where the heck did he come up with that? My answer is, as always, a model of clarity and the soul of wit: I don't know!
The most sobering aspect of Harry's outbursts is that Harry has made a big mistake. An obvious parallel from a slightly different context is that every time he tries, Harry gets increasingly successful in his attempts to reduce our modern, civilized, industrialized society to a state of mindless, primitive barbarism. This dangerous trend means not only death for free thought but for imagination as well.
Harry keeps telling everyone within earshot that free speech is wonderful as long as you're not bashing him and the socially inept, drugged-out schemers in his club. I'm guessing that Harry read that on some Web site of dubious validity. More reliable sources generally indicate that he takes things out of context, twists them around, and then neglects to provide decent referencing so the reader can check upon him. Harry also ignores all of the evidence that doesn't support (or in many cases directly contradicts) his position. The reason is that the virus of anti-intellectualism took control of our country's political life long ago. Now, thanks to Harry's notions, that virus will continue to spread until no one can recall that Harry's opposition to obscurantism has been more rhetorical than substantive. After all, Harry forgot that he supported the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Believe it or not, I really want to believe that Harry is a decent, honest person. Unfortunately, as is often the case when talking about Harry, what I want to believe proves to be fantasy.
Simply put, it's because it's our responsibility to call people to their highest and best, not accommodate them at their lowest and least. That's the first step in trying to halt the adulation heaped upon us by the raunchous swindler, and it's the only way to clear the cobwebs out of people's heads and help them understand that Harry has a deep conviction that the sun rises just for him. Let me end this note by challenging my readers to build a society in which people have a sense of permanence and stability, not
chaos and uncertainty. Are you with me, or with the forces of gangsterism and oppression?
Revwhatever, you are a classic example of a false prophet in every sense of the word. If there is a filthy man in this little drama, it's you with your hate-filled screed. If you are indeed a man of the cloth, you must be associated with the evil Westbourough Kansas Baptist Church that demonstrates at dead soldiers funerals. Shame on you. you fraud.
phony reverend.....
I was born right here in the U.S.A.
So were my parents.
Your greed and hatred is astounding.
gsmall......
You greedy clowns have no chance in November.
ReverendKscribe may be a chaplain for the right wing extremist--the KKK, Aryan Nations, W.A.R., racist skinheads, neo-Nazi's, Nazi's, John Birchers, etc...
He is no reverend of Christianity!
Amen.
teamster,
Your attacks are noted but without merit. I was a democrat once after I quite the ACU.
Here is the group that supports your president in all he does. Throw Harry into the mix and what do you get?
