flash point:

A true contrast between candidates

Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 | 2:01 a.m.

Very rarely do you see the kind of contrast between candidates as you do in Senate District 9. Elizabeth Halseth, who defeated state Sen. Dennis Nolan in the GOP primary despite a vacuous campaign, has topped that vacuity in the general election. She has avoided debates and crowed that she is the only candidate “that has children” (grammatically and morally challenged). Her opponent, Benny Yerushalmi, has impeccable education credentials (Stanford, UCLA), a guy with a law degree and MBA willing to leave his small business to go to Carson City for four months. He can speak articulately about the state’s past, present and future. As I said, what a contrast. Wonder if voters will notice?

  1. Does this elitist eat moose burgers?

  2. The real question is will he get lazy and vote to raise taxes on us for a third time in ten years?

  3. And this wasn't a vacuous article?

  4. Benny's sliding into home plate.

  5. The higher taxed states and countries are generally doing better. Remember all the Fox News people and talk radio clowns talking about the "Irish Miracle?" Ireland lowered taxes and was booming??? Now Ireland is in the bottom three of Western European countries.

Australia 5%, Germany 7.5%, Switzerland 4.5% unemployment. They have all sorts of government and all sorts of taxes. Economic simpletons should put away their "low tax and less government coloring books" and open their eyes.

The lack of regulation nearly destroyed the egg industry.

North Dakota has 4% unemployment and a tax rate that is "average" according to most rankings.

CNBC said Nevada is last in terms of business environment because of the low education level.

    More taxes = less unemployment
