Officials call off search for reported downed aircraft

Updated Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 | 3:55 p.m.

Officials called off a search Sunday prompted by reports of a downed aircraft in eastern Clark County.

Clark County and Metro Police authorities said they canceled the search after emergency crews found no evidence that a plane had crashed.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said initial reports indicated a Twin Cessna aircraft crashed about 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 80 of Interstate 15 close to Moapa, Clark County officials said. That location is about 25 miles northeast of the Speedway Boulevard interchange.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said a citizen reported to police that a plane went down, but the FAA never received information about an actual crash.
