Centennial beats Faith Lutheran, controls its own destiny in Northwest

Taj Cole had a pair of long scoring runs Friday to lift the Centennial High football team to a 23-16 victory against visiting Faith Lutheran.

Both of Cole’s touchdowns were more than 50 yards. Willie White added a 30-yard touchdown for the Bulldogs, which improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the Northwest Division.

Palo Verde and Arbor View are atop the league standings with undefeated records, but Centennial is very much alive for a playoff berth. It plays Legacy and Cheyenne to close the season, knowing two victories would secure them a spot in the postseason.

“We tell the kids that every night is like a playoff game for us,” Centennial coach Leon Evans said. “We have to compete every week in this league.”
