Henderson holiday decorating contest now accepting entries

Henderson is now accepting entries for its 2010 holiday decorating contest.

Anyone who will decorate a single-family home in Henderson can apply. There are two categories for competition: the most innovative and “Griswold.”

Judges are looking for homes decorated with new methods, technologies, or styles for the most innovative category. The “Griswold” category includes homes decorated in the elaborate style used in the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

Members of the Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission will judge the entries Dec. 6. The awards will be presented at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at WinterFest at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street.

Residents who want to tour the displays can register for the Parks and Recreation Department’s holiday lights tour on Dec. 17, which departs at 6:30 p.m. from 1575 Galleria Drive and returns at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person.

The city will also provide a map after Dec. 14 for those wishing to drive around town to see the lights on their own.

Entry forms are available at www.cityofhenderson.com or can be obtained by calling 269-4014. The contest is limited to the first 50 households that apply.

Applications will be accepted through Nov. 10.
