Judge drops criminal complaint against Nye County detective

A criminal complaint filed earlier this year against Nye County Sheriff’s Detective David Boruchowitz was dismissed Friday morning by Judge Joseph Bonaventure.

The complaint accused Boruchowitz of burglary and assault in an effort to harass candidates seeking public office.

“Detective David Boruchowitz preformed his job lawfully, that was acknowledged by the court,” Nye County Sherrif Anthony DeMeo said in a press release Friday.

One of the charges, according to the complaint, involved Boruchowitz allegedly kicking in a door at a home where teens were gathered April 17. The complaint said the daughter of sheriff’s candidate Scott Cobel was among the teens in the house when Boruchowitz was accused of forcing his way in and subjecting teens to searches — including breathalyzer tests — without a warrant.

Boruchowitz also had been accused of filing an application for a search warrant in March that included untrue statements about another sheriff’s candidate, Ted Holmes.

According to a press release issued by Boruchowitz, who also acts as the sheriff’s spokesman, Bonaventure told him he was “sorry you had to go through this.”

“I am grateful this nightmare has come to an end and my family and I can begin to put the pieces of our lives back together,” Boruchowitz said.
