Gibbons makes progress in recovering from broken pelvis

CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons, on the mend from a broken pelvis, is able to get out of his hospital bed “once in a while,” his spokesman said.

Gibbons watched football on television Sunday and “is delighted the Giants won,” said spokesman Daniel Burns. He didn't bet on the game.

There is no word on when he will be released from Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he has been since Sept. 21 when he was bucked from a horse.

Burns said he talked with the governor’s surgeon, who predicts a full recovery and the ability of Gibbons to ride a horse again.

“The next step is for rehabilitation,” Burns said.
