Henderson:

Candle blamed for fire that does $180,000 damage

House fire

An unattended candle is being blamed for a fire that did an estimated $180,000 damage to a house in Henderson on Saturday night, fire officials said.

The fire was reported about 9 p.m. in the 500 block of Lariat Lane, near the intersection of Warm Springs Road and Valle Verde Drive in the Green Valley area, the Henderson Fire Department said.

Nobody was injured.

The homeowner discovered the fire and called 911, officials said. Fire crews arrived in about four minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a first-floor bedroom window and a sliding door at the back of the two-story home, officials said.

It took about 20 minutes to put out the blaze. The house sustained significant smoke and fire damage, officials said.

A fire investigator determined the blaze was accidental, the result of a candle left unattended, official said. Fire crews remained on the scene several hours putting out hot spots, officials said.
