Hawaii man dies after vehicle strikes palm tree

Fatal accident

A Honolulu man died this morning when he lost control of his car in the south valley and struck a palm tree.

Metro Police responded at 2:40 a.m. to the one-vehicle crash on Warm Springs Road near Windy Street, which is just west of Las Vegas Boulevard. Police said the 41-year-old driver's 2010 Suzuki SX4 was eastbound in the left travel lane when he lost control of the vehicle.

The Suzuki veered in a northeast direction crossing the westbound lanes, striking the north curb and hitting a palm tree, investigators said. The vehicle then rolled onto its passenger side.

The driver was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't being released pending notification of family.

This is the 30th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro's jurisdiction.
