Pedestrian killed

A woman crossing Sands Avenue, just east of the Strip, was struck by two vehicles and killed Thursday evening, Metro Police said.

The 35-year-old woman from Miami was hit about 6 p.m. by a pickup truck and then by a white SUV, police said. The SUV stopped for a few minutes but left before emergency personnel arrived, police said.

The woman’s name was not released, pending notification of her family.

The accident happened about 50 feet east of the Strip, between the Palazzo and Wynn casinos, police said. The pedestrian, who was crossing the street north to south, was not in a marked crosswalk, police said.

She was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Anyone with additional information about the white SUV is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Metro Detective Karl Tomaso at 828-3128.

The incident was the 28th fatal accident in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. It is under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
