Drowning location

Metro Police today said a 2-year-old boy who drowned Sunday night in the eastern valley was thought to be in a bathtub when a grandparent found him dead in a swimming pool.

Police spokesman Marcus Martin said officers responded at 7:51 p.m. to the 4800 block of Santa Barbara Street on the report that a child had drowned. That location is near the interchange of U.S. 95 and Tropicana Avenue.

Martin said the boy's grandmother reported that she found the boy dead in a swimming pool at the home. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the boy Monday as Geno Valerio of Las Vegas.

"It looks like the child was supposed to have been in the tub but somehow ended up in the pool," Martin said. "It looks like the child was in the pool for some time."

Authorities on Monday were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
