Police: Homeowner shot after two intruders enter house

Approximate location

A homeowner was shot by an intruder this morning after two men entered his home in the northwest valley, authorities said.

Metro Police spokesman Marcus Martin said a man was in his living room shortly after midnight today when two men entered his home in the area of Craig Road and Durango Drive. Police said the men could see the homeowner inside the house from the street.

They entered through the front door, which was unlocked, Martin said.

The men demanded money from the homeowner and asked for information about a safe. The victim told the men he didn't have money or a safe, police said.

"At some point during the robbery, the victim sees an opportunity for an escape, so he bolts," Martin said.

As the victim ran, police said one man fired a .40-caliber gun and shot him in the hip. The victim called police at a neighbor's house and was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Police said one suspect was described as black, about 20-25 years old and 6-foot-1-inch tall with a dark hoodie. The second man was described as black, about 20-25 years old and 5-foot-9-inches tall with a dark hoodie and white tennis shoes.

Martin said police aren't sure whether items were taken from the home.
