High winds could bring unhealthy levels of dust

High winds could create unhealthy levels of dust in the Las Vegas Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management said this morning it is advising residents and construction site operators of the possibility of blowing dust Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. Airborne dust can aggravate respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma.

The county's air quality department said children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases are urged to stay indoors during dust storms.

Unhealthy levels of dust aren't occurring at this time. Air quality officials will post an alert on the department's Web site if unhealthy levels of dust occur.

The National Weather Service said winds could gust up to 28 mph.

Residents are asked to call the air quality department's dust-complaint hot line at 385-DUST to report excessive amounts of blowing dust.
