A man arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after allegedly running over a man lying in a convenience store parking lot denied he was driving the car, a Metro Police report said.

An arrest report released Friday said three witnesses identified 34-year-old William Senf as the man who ran over Anthony Zak, 43, at about 3:50 p.m. March 17 at a 7-Eleven store in the 4800 block of West Tropicana Avenue.

One witness said he called an ambulance after he noticed Zak in the parking lot, bleeding from the mouth, the report said. Police said Zak had previously been involved in a fight.

After calling 911, the witness saw a car driving toward him and waved his arms to get the driver to stop, the report said. The witness told officers that the driver saw him waving but attempted to drive around him and ran over Zak with a 2001 Ford Mustang.

The car did not stop and dragged the Zak through the parking lot, according to witness statements.

Another witness pulled in front of the Mustang to prevent it from leaving the scene, the report said. Witnesses then detained Senf until officers arrived, police said.

Police said Senf was slurring his speech and smelled of alcohol.

He refused a sobriety test, but a laboratory technician took two blood samples from his right arm, authorities said.

He denied that he was driving at the time of the incident and said he had been walking down the street, the police report said.

Senf was charged with one count of DUI with substantial bodily harm.

Zak suffered serious head and abdominal wounds and was taken to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, police said.

Senf is scheduled for an arraignment at 7:45 a.m. March 29. He was being held in the Clark County Detention Center on $100,000 bail.
