FLASH POINT:

Titus politically careful on health care reform

Listening to Rep. Dina Titus on “Face to Face” on Tuesday evening, you could tell she really wants to vote for health care reform. You can tell she really likes many aspects of the package, especially many aspects of the House bill she has supported. But the Senate bill’s provisions do not thrill her, nor does the processes being considered for passage. She wouldn’t even agree to sign on to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s petition to support reconciliation. No politician is completely absent political calculation — and Titus surely knows this single vote could cost her her seat — or so the Republicans and their allies are saying through polls and ads. I wonder how she would create a teachable moment out of this for her political science class.
