Boulder City Municipal Airport

A small plane crashed in Boulder City on Friday afternoon, killing the pilot, officials said.

The pilot of the plane, which came from Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix, sent out a message about 4:30 p.m. saying the plane ran out of fuel while over Lake Mead, a Boulder City spokeswoman said. The plane's destination was Henderson.

The Beechcraft BE35 Bonanza aircraft tried to reach Boulder City Municipal Airport, but crashed in a desert south of the airport. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian McGregor said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

The pilot was the only person onboard the plane and no one was injured on the ground, the city spokeswoman said.
