Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid will officially launch his campaign for Nevada governor.
The son of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he will file his candidacy paperwork Tuesday in Las Vegas. Candidate filings close Friday.
Rory Reid is considered the Democratic front-runner and has been campaigning for more than a year. So far only one other person has filed as a Democrat, political unknown Frederick Lee Conquest of Las Vegas.
Nevada's primary is June 8.
Incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons plans to file for re-election Thursday. Former federal judge Brian Sandoval, former North Las Vegas mayor Mike Montandon and Stanleigh Harold Lusak of Fallon also are vying for the Republican nomination.
The race also has attracted four minor party candidates.

This Nevada Native doesn't want Rory Reid as Nevada Governor

No more Reids. Big Reid, little reid, old Reid, or baby reid. No more Reid. Enough damage has been done.
Why is he running? Belonging to that family right now is the political kiss of death.
I for one am not voting for Rory Reid. This politcal game has got to end. We need new blood without politcal ties to make our state whole again.
Reid's kid took on the UMC bureaucracy and made himself instantly palatable to conservatives/independents. UMC ought to be closed and then re-opened as a private enterprise, so they can turn a buck by turning down deadbeats.
Good, can't wait to vote against him! I'm sick of the Reids' tearing down our state. Good riddance to both of them!
He accomplished nothing good with the county commission so why the #$%* would we let this guy run our state?
Yeah that is just what we need - another Reid with his hands in our pockets. Get Lost!
Vote out the incumbents, vote in new blood, independent thinking, and creative government! No thank you Reid(s)
I filed today at 11am. Send me an email and I will send you a photo. DC
Can't wait to see the "RORY" signs and banners scattered across the valley. Dropping your last name may distance you from your father, but not enough.
Just what Nevada does NOT need is another Reid! Makes me think of rotten apples falling from the tree.
Give it a rest, people. It's not like Brian Sandoval and Jim Gibbons are any better, and there's no way this race is going to a third party. Either vote for someone who is willing to bring Nevada into the 21st century or don't vote at all.
In a state noted for its minginess, Rory should be a fine leader. He has ideas for expanding the Nevada pie, not just redistributing it, and he actually has a plan. He's steady as a rock, and I am sure we won't see standard hypocritic rhetoric with no factual basis from him. Of course real plans may be too real for our voters. If so, God help us all. Come to think of it, we need God's help anyway!
He looks presidential to me, like a lollypop with that big head on top of a 10 inch neck. Chip off of the old block.
LVNVCarol, would you mind passing whatever you're smoking?
Just look at the mess we have here in Clark County with the county union employee contracts, that can be laid directly at Rory's feet. Why would you ever want that person as Governor?!?
Scary isn't it?
GO RORY.
We need to boot every last republican crook
out of Nevada.
It could be worse, but I doubt it.
Well, as the so-called politcal unknown - at least to the party hacks, I look forward to sending Harry's kid back to being a minion in his daddy's Mustang Ranch for Lobbyists.
If you read the drivel on his website you wonder if his so-called vision was not the effect of bad drugs or he hired Mister Magoo.
Clueless is about the best way to describe him and his ideas without being calling him a clown.
But then when you beileve in government by the party, for the corporations, socialism for the rich and poverty for everyone else as the kid and his daddy, Harry Reid, do, what do you expect?
If you count the comments, it seems Harry's boy has got two votes out of 25, if all the commentators are Democrats. Not what I would call a landslide of support.
But I am in the race so Democrats have a choice - they can vote for Harry's kid and poverty for all, or they can vote to fix our problems, which means they vote for me.
I, for one, am 100% for a Reid-Free Nevada, along with sending the Republicans back into their caves and have them eat their ideology of dumb, dumber and stupid from the unemployment line.
I see NO reason we should reward the same people who caused all the problems we face by giving them a chance to screw things up even more.
And as one comentator pointed out, it might be better if we just blowout all the incumbants and go from there. How is it humanly possible that others could do worse than what they have done?

Fred, I'm a Green
Fred, I'm an ultra-right-wing radical.
I have read Rory's plan for Nevada. I think it is well thought out. Rory has done a terrific job as a member of the Clark County Commission. Our current Governor has shown that he is not capable of being honest in all situations. The fact that he lied to a reporter, texted a girlfriend during important state business meetings and continues to be inflexible in the face of our state's financial crisis should be enough to show he is not worthy to be reelected. Brian Sandoval, while an experienced politician, has not yet finished any job he started. I find myself wondering why someone with a lifetime appointment would abruptly leave it to run for an office that is considered a step down from where he was. I am confident in Rory's ability to lead our state out of the serious financial crisis we are facing.
