California company gets permit to bury garbage in Nevada

CARSON CITY – The state Division of Environmental Protection has issued the first of two permits to a California company that wants to haul garbage from that state to bury in a site near Winnemucca.

Recology, based in the San Francisco Bay area, would collect the waste and haul it by rail to the proposed site.

Allen Biaggi, director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said the company still must get land management clearance before it can construct the site. That decision is several months away, he said.

Recology, through its subsidiaries, serves 50 communities in California and collects trash from 570,000 homeowners and 55 commercial companies.
