Former North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon has filed as a Republican candidate for Nevada governor.

Montandon filed his candidacy paperwork Friday in Las Vegas.

During an online news conference afterward, Montandon said his 12 years as mayor gives him executive experience to run the state.

He also said Nevada should invest in developing nuclear power to take the state into the next century, and made a distinction between evolving technology and the proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain.

He says burying somebody else's trash in your own backyard is not a good idea for anybody.

Montandon joins Brian Sandoval and Stanleigh Harold Lusak of Fallon who have filed for the GOP primary.

Incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons says he will seek re-election but has not yet filed.
