Police on Wednesday served warrants on nine felony counts "related to theft and burglary charges" at the office and home of Rene Orozco, the Nevada director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, a Metro news release said.

Metro said it identified several people who allege Orozco accepted money from them to assist with “citizenship and criminal defense issues” and then failed to deliver any assistance.

The majority of those who lodged complaints are undocumented or are facing other citizenship issues, police said.

LULAC, with local offices in the 700 block of North Nellis Boulevard, is a national organization advocating Latino civil rights and opportunities in the Latin community.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Metro did not release additional details.

Orozco could not immediately be reached for comment.
