Motley Crue singer Vince Neil, who last week had declared his sobriety, was arrested on drunken driving charges after getting pulled over by police in his Lamborghini near the Las Vegas Strip.
The 49-year-old rocker was taken into custody about 11:15 p.m. Sunday when he was stopped in the black sports car after leaving the Las Vegas Hilton, Metro Police spokesman Bill Cassell said. Neil was released Monday after posting $2,000 bail.
Attorney David Chesnoff called it "premature" Monday to respond to the charge until he and attorney Richard Schonfeld collect information about the arrest.
Cassell said details of Neil's arrest would not be publicly released, and a police report would not be made available during the investigation.
Neil is the front man for a four-member heavy metal band known for its bad behavior, hard partying, famous girlfriends and hits like "Girls, Girls, Girls," and "Dr. Feelgood." He said last week that he was sober and that there are "other things in life than just drugs and alcohol."
Neil and his fourth wife, Lia, live in Las Vegas, where Neil owns tattoo shops, a bar called Feelgoods Rock Bar and Grill, and the Vince Neil Tres Rios Cantina at the Las Vegas Hilton. Neil is scheduled to perform at the Palms on Thursday.
He recently released a solo album, "Tattoos and Tequila," covering 1970s rock songs and a rendition of Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas."
In an interview last week with The Associated Press about a tell-all book due out in September, Neil said he hadn't used drugs in 20 years and had stopped abusing alcohol.
"There's just a point in your life where you kind of stop, that's what happened with me," Neil had said. "There's other things in life than just drugs and alcohol."
Neil said he admired the sobriety of top performers today.
"Those are the guys that are doing it right," he said. "It's the ones that self-destruct with the drugs and alcohol that have gone by the wayside many years ago."
Cassell said police also were looking into a report of an incident involving Neil, a female fan and a broken camera in front of the Las Vegas Hilton hotel.
The arrest was not Neil's first drunken driving case. In 1984, he crashed a sports car head-on into another car in Redondo Beach, Calif., killing his passenger, Nicholas Dingley, a 24-year-old drummer with the group Hanoi Rocks.
Neil, then 25, wasn't injured. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving, served 20 days in jail, and agreed to pay $2.5 million in restitution to victims.
Neil also has had misdemeanor battery charges dismissed at least twice in California and Nevada after performing community service. One stemmed from an accusation that he roughed up a prostitute in 2003 at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel in northern Nevada.
Neil is due Sept. 27 in Las Vegas Justice Court.

he drives a freaking bright red Ferrari, usually really slow down trop toward the strip. Ive passed him a few times.
this is the EXACT reason why people that get caught driving drunk should have their license pulled for a year and spend 30 days MANDATORY in jail.
if people KNEW that was going to happen to them, you would see this stuff drop pretty fast.
Don't go to Europe. Get caught there DUI and there it goes - your lifetime driving privilege! No questions, appeals, whatevers. Period.
This is kind of wierd.
I wonder if METRO was laying in wait for him. In either event, good job METRO.
Ironically, Vince Neil just released a new album entitled Tattoos and Tequila. I would bet dollars to donuts he was drunk on Tequila.

he'll walk..$$$ talks in this town.... call ed, then he'll have some groupie drive him around...
well he says it himself in an interview in 2005 that he 'got away with it' because he paid money $2.5mill and spent like 30days in jail...sad when he says he got away with it and goes out and drinks and drives still. He can surely afford a driver or a cab or Designated Drivers for gosh sakes.
At least 65% of Metro are LDS - It's no wonder they didn't cut Vince a well deserved break - Let'em park the car, call a sober driver - take a cab - shake hands - case closed.
See you Thursday Vin!
doubledown_deadende.
"At least 65% of Metro are LDS" No facts once again to back up your nonsense statement.
"It's no wonder they didn't cut Vince a well deserved break" Well deserved break? What makes him deserving of a break? Drunk driving kills people. Maybe you should be driving him around unless you like to drink and drive also.
Before you use a computer you should put your brain in gear.
This state needs to get a lot tougher on drunk drivers.

"Don't go to Europe. Get caught there DUI and there it goes - your lifetime driving privilege! No questions, appeals, whatevers. Period."
You mean don't live in Europe. I don't think it matters a bit to an American citizen if "Europe" revokes their European driving rights for life.
I will wait to see what the BAC level was before I pass harsh judgment on Vince. I know for a fact that the local police can be harsh and overzealous when it comes to making a celebrity arrest. It will take months to get his BAC test results back. They may come back as under the legal limit and they will have to drop all charges. With a BAC of .08 it only takes two drinks at dinner to become legally intoxicated and you too can go to jail in Clark County for the 12 hour hold (even longer in most cases).
With that said, if Vince was bombed and he has a high BAC level he should do some jail time because he did kill his best friend in a DUI accident in the early 1980's.
a celebrity arrested *again* for DUI?? Shocking!! Some people never learn.
If you think Europe is safer, MOVE there, If you think cops are not some of the worst violators of alchohol abuse have your brain rewired, of course they do have a tough job but get paid accordingly. My guess is less than 20% of all people in the US, (his age) has driven drunk (.08>)at one point in time, which is only a couple drinks.
"not" driven
If a 140 lb person drank two gin and tonics in an hour's time, the BAC would be 0.3, not 0.8.
I'm thinking that driving a red Ferrari after you have been drinking is not the best idea. So much for being incognito.
FYI: Vince Neil has already caused the death of one person by drunk driving. He also seriously injured two other people.
You would think he would have learned from his past... Maybe some time in the big house will get him to straighten out.
From Wikipedia:
In late 1984 Hanoi Rocks was on their first American tour. Frontman Michael Monroe fractured his ankle, so the band had to skip a few gigs and take a break. During that break Motley Crue's singer Vince Neil invited the band to visit his home, in California.
On December 8, Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, visited Neil's home and spent the day in Redondo Beach. The two decided to take a trip to a local liquor store in Neil's De Tomaso Pantera. While speeding and driving drunk, Neil lost control of the car and hit an opposing vehicle. The two occupants of the other car were seriously injured but Razzle took the worst of it. He was taken to South Bay ER but was declared DOA 8 December at 19:12 local time.
Yes but you can be arrested on suspicion and lose your license and even if the BAC eventually comes back lower than .03, you'll be ticketed for driving while impaired if you've admitted that you had any thing to drink. Best thing is to just refuse to answer the questions. Definitely don't lie about it but don't admit it.
TMZ is reporting that Vince Neil was arrested in 2007 for reckless driving and DUI in Las Vegas. He plead out to the reckless driving and DUI charges were dropped. It looks like he already used his "get out of jail free card."
Vince Neil needs to pay the price just like any other citizen of Las Vegas would be required to do with no special treatment. And then he needs to get help. I've seen Vince Neil around town many times and most of the times he has a drink in his hands.
30 days in jail under threat of 1 year incarceration for the next offense
within the next 10 years .
It worked for me - that was 20 years ago.
Not only do I not drive drunk- I drive very carefully.
I do not want to hurt anyone and I want to live.
I'm pretty sure losing his license or a little bit of jail time aren't going to make him learn his lesson, killing his best friend and paying millions in damages certainly didn't beat any sense into him.
People on here cutting down Vince Neil and bitching about DUI's are just miserable jealous people. Everyone wishes they could be a ROCK STAR like Vince Neil. Vince Neil rules!!!! He'll get past this and keep on living a great life with his band, business, hot girls and private jet fleet.... So party hard and live life to the fullest. Don't let loser conservatives bring you down. I won't.
What else can be said except that when you have money and celebrity status, you can get off easier and with less punishment.
See ya at those A.A. meetings Vinny-boy!
He should hv been going years ago.
What a loser... You would think that after killing someone that drinking altogether would be out of the question...
When you're 60 (how old is Vince Neil?), it's time to stop acting like you're 20 or 40 for that matter. Sometime, you just gotta be happy with the past and look forward to a better future
Remember Mr. Dingley? Murdered by a drunk. My a person must be a total narcissist to try it again. Must have another couple mil laying around for the next victims family.
Isn't he a conservative flag waver? The scandel involving Las Vegas talk radio guy Jerry Doyle is even greater.
Dr. Feelgood needs to check into rehab with Dr. Drew Pinsky.
Indefensible.
Vince, come on man, you know sober is sober and abstinent, not champagne and some Tequila here and there.
Dude, your way got you pulled over and charged.
Remaining open to see how it plays out, not knowing all the facts.
I lived in Redondo Beach back in the day, and you definitely don't want a repeat of that scene.
Make it great man, you have a good life.
Vince, if you need a staff sponsor/guidance person let me know. I am cool, discreet and available in this economic climate.
