The justifiable dismissal of Gen. Stanley McChrystal ignores the more significant aspect of this story, which is the disdain of President Barack Obama that is held by our military.
The reasons for this are many, including his taking four months in deciding to honor a part of the requested surge of troops in Afghanistan; the setting of a firm deadline for the completion of probably an impossible task there; and the proposed lifting of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy for gays in the military.
The president needs to recognize the real problems and react not only to the symptoms. At this time of an all-volunteer military in a time of war, it is critical that the military have confidence in our president.
