Report: Las Vegas water meets federal quality standard

Las Vegas-area water officials say an annual report finds the tap water it delivers meets or exceeds state and federal health standards.

The Las Vegas Valley Water District says the 2010 Water Quality Report going out this week also shows that Las Vegas has "hard" water, with lots of dissolved minerals.

The federally mandated report is due to arrive at homes and businesses this month.

District Water Quality Manager Pat Sampson says most people don't realize that standards for tap water are stricter than for bottled water.

The district gets almost all its water from Lake Mead, the Colorado River reservior behind Hoover Dam.

It supplies water to almost 350,000 homes and businesses in Clark County.
