Construction accident
Clark County Fire Department officials said a construction worker was transported to University Medical Center this afternoon with critical injuries after being crushed by a front-loader machine's shovel.
Department spokesman Scott Allison said the construction worker, a man in his early 40s, was working in between the front shovel and main part of the machine when the accident occurred at the Hustler Club construction site, near Ponderosa Way and Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas.
Witnesses believe the man may have reached into the machine and accidentally hit a control, which unleashed the shovel and pinned him in the cavity between the main machine and the shovel, Allison said.
Officials said co-workers tried to release the shovel but were unable to do so before fire crews arrived. Emergency workers had to use equipment to pry the man from the shovel's grip.
No other details about the condition of the man, who has not been identified, were available.
Allison said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident.

Isn't this the same area as the last one a few weeks back?
Yes and no..
Same part of town. Different jobs.
"Working in between the front shovel and main part of the machine"
Is this SOP? This seems incredibly dangerous.
ouch
The loader should have been turned off, or a certified operator should have been at the controls if it was running. Sorry somebody got hurt, but this worker should have never been in this predicament.
Did he do this on his own or was he told to do this?
No piece of equipment or job is worth getting hurt over. Hope the guy recovers.
