Officer-involved shooting
Metro Police this morning identified a man accused of firing on police officers late Thursday as 27-year-old Jason Vanbuskirk.
Three officers returned fire at the man, shooting Vanbuskirk after police say he fired multiple shots at officers and another person. Vanbuskirk was critically wounded and remained at University Medical Center this morning, police said. No officers were injured.
Vanbuskirk was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on three counts of attempted murder of a police officer and one count of attempted murder with a weapon. Additional charges could be filed, police said.
Vanbuskirk has no criminal history.
Officers responded at 10:02 p.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 3900 block of Applecrest Street. Police said a woman reported that her boyfriend was outside their home and armed with a handgun.
Before police cruisers arrived, investigators in a Metro helicopter spotted the man, later identified as Vanbuskirk, hiding behind a dark truck armed with a gun, police said.
Officers approached him on foot, then Vanbuskirk fired at them multiple times, police said. Three officers returned fire, authorities said.
Vanbuskirk was taken to UMC's trauma unit, where he was in critical but stable condition, police said this morning.
Authorities said the man had fired at least two shots at a moped rider in the area before police arrived. The person on the moped wasn't struck.
Police canvassed the area into the morning to search for witnesses.
The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be released about 48 hours after the incident. The officers were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy in cases of officer-involved shootings.

Is this a part of the city where this is common? I will check back to see what stevem posts about the location and the area.
What's the over/under for Metro involved shootings this month?
According to the (publicly available) scanner traffic, the suspect was trying to break into a house with a gun. When the police helicopter got there, he took up a a position to wait for officers. When they arrived, he began shooting at them. He's now dead.
Yep SURE he did. More Metro forged reports I suspect. Then again the pigs are never at fault and never do anything like shoot innocent people.

Strange, most burglars try to break into houses with a crow/pry bar, channel locks or screw driver. Who called 911, and did they know the guy had a gun and alerted the operator of same?
"Professional" burglars (if there is such a thing...) never commit a burglary armed, due to enhanced sentencing guidelines. Unfortunately, few burglars theses days are 'professionals'.
This burglar ignored the enhancement threat, took an ambush position under the full glare of a Police chopper spotlight, and greeted responding cops with gunfire.
It could happen.
probably some guy taking the garbage out
Informant, (apparently a misnomer), and dhvincent better get some new sources.
sometimes, it's better to wait for a reliable source or report before commenting.
My "sources" (metro) say it was a domestic, and the man is quite alive.
Domestics go up exponentially with the temperature.
112-115 through the weekend... could be brutal for some Valley spouses.
PLEASE don't leave your pets outside all day in this heat, people. That's insane, and those that do so should be sentenced to the same treatment.
Thank you.
dhvincent wants us to believe a personal blog by some guy from Wisconsin is a credible news source? Next. I also imagine Informant means the suspect had a gun while trying to break into a house, as it appears Informant is a product of the Clark County schools and therefore unable to compose a coherent and properly constructed sentence.
@gmag Like Metro is a reliable source.

Who breaks into a house threw a window and he has a gun? lol storey makes alot of sence huh
Notice how they emphasize the perp shot first. If that's truly the case, then Metro did the right thing. I find it odd however that this guy takes cover behind a truck, shoots at Metro, and is still alive.... however Eric Scott gets killed point blank in front of a bunch of people and it's debatable whether or not he was even holding a gun.
Apparently somebody with metro will have to take a bullet before anyone will feel it's justified to shoot back at these scum bags.
Comparing this case to the Costco case is comparing apples and oranges. In this instance, the police took fire, returned fire and resolved the situation.
In short, they relied on their training!
The same can not be said in the Costco case where rookie officers killed someone that was not a threat and escalated a situation that was never dangerous to begin with.
It amazes me how many people think that every cop is wrong. But it also amazes me how many people think that cops are incapable of making a mistake.
Here's the deal: There good cops and there are bad cops. There are cops who can recall their training in a stressful situation and there are cops that freak out in a stressful situation.
Anyone that can't understand these facts is dealing in reality.
Too bad he lived, now we'll have to pay for his life in jail.
SummerlinCC,
I continue to be amazed how you know exactly what happened during an event when you were not there.

Based off his profile pic, I'd say he probably did in fact have a gun.
LV_N8tive, in the Costco case, all I'm doing is reading the interviews with eyewitnesses published by the media and applying them to the events as portrayed by Metro PD. Then I read the Metro PD official statements and compare them with previous statements that they've made.
But here is why I say the cases are different. Here you have an identified threat with a weapon in his hand that has fired upon officers. The end result is officers firing at the threat. The perp is shot once and still lives.
Now take the Costco case. Officers at the store weren't even sure who the "threat" even was and needed store employees to point him out. The individual was walking calmly from the store when officers approached with no gun in his hand or even visible at the time. He is shot seven times and dies.
See the difference?
Talk about the ironies of life. The taxpayers will have to pay to keep a criminal fed, clothed and with a TV for the rest of his life, while the Scott family will have to pay to bury their son....
Just wonderin' could Vanbuskirk have been some cop hating nutjob seeking revenge for Scott shooting? I mean just read some of these posts - it could happen.
One thing is for sure.. if the courts can't handle Metro.. lone gun-men nut-jobs will come out of the woodwork to fill the void.
I wonder if anyone [else] was figured out that the real 'perp' was the hells angel on the mo-ped who attempted to run over the shooting victim , was only shooting at the mo-ped maniac when the cops arrived on the scene and who then totally misunderstood the situation and shot the wrong guy?
I'll bet the poor wounded guy was only taking his evening walk and had no idea that his ex-lady friend had moved into this neighborhood.
Right Summerlincc?
I'm just glad the charges specified that it was attempted murder WITH a weapon. I might have assumed he was using a piece of fruit or a Shop-Vac or something.
It does seem that if you find yourself in an altercation with Metro, your best bet is to shoot first and ask questions later. Your chance of living through the ordeal is greatly increased.
Someone commented about the integrity of the Police Department and the possible integrity of the Police investigation of the Cosco Shooting. I was at campaign debate where Officer Bisch, Officer Martinez with LVMPD stated a crime was covered up by the Sheriff at his home. Look it up. Two current officers at a public campaign debate state the now Sheriff covered up a crime at his home.
More officers on paid administrative leave....does makes about about half of the force now???
Why can't they be put on desk duty or answer 911 calls rather than having antother paid vacation?
tysuave77, This story makes about as much sense as your grammar.
Any domestic disturbance or traffic stop may be a deadly encounter for Metro. Look up the Tampa shooting and killing of two police officers by a previously arrested male scumbag during a "routine" traffic stop.
As for the Erik Scott incident at Costco, what a tragedy. One question remains: One of the 911 calls was made after he was seen moving through Costco with a drawn semiautomatic pistol. The caller, who is trained in the use of firearms and a CCW holder then yelled "get down" and had herself and others lying on the floor at Costco. Why would anyone lie on the Costco floor in fear for their lives if a GUN was not visible? That is one question that has yet to be answered.

any relation to red vanburskirk
Remove the comment because the truth stings, more dicttatorship, the comment was right on the nail head, but you the staff choose to violate freedom of speech, just what I figured.
A new sheriff is needed in clark county, bottom line.
The Scott family should file second degree murder charges with clark county DA. 3 bad cops murdered a Army vetran & honorable natural born citizen of the united states. Corruption in clark county at its worst. These 3 cowards had Eric Scott stand still, so they could shoot him in the heart & head. I have seen better treatment of the enemy on the battle field by the 1st calvary. LIke I stated earlier, don't blame the whole dept for a few bad apples. This murder of Eric Scott is sick, and makes me sick to my stomach, sicking. You can remover comments of fact, but that will not change the facts or the peoples view of this murder. This is the kind of stuff that caueses civil disorder and a break down of the system. Bottom line abuse of authority. 3 bad tempered cops in a rage decide to kill a law abiding citizen becuase they could at the time, they should have been stopped by all the wittness & disarmed on the spot and cuffed. It's called a citizens arrest. Note* ELECT A NEW SHERIFF & clean up this mess.
One more thing, a few costco employees should be arrested for false reporting, causing a disturbance, which led to the murder of Eric Scott, by the 3 coward hot tempered in a rage so called officers of the law. All you people defending these 3 cowards could become one of their victims. If you don't have the guts to stand up for freedom & what is right, go crawl back in your weasel spineless hole, & keep your mouth shut. Thank God for the Contenintal Army & the Militia men in 1776 who had the guts to stand up aganist the dictators & all of our Army Vetrans to current date.
@colt-
I haven't heard a misinformed and incoherent rant like that since I gave this homeless Vietnam vet. a quarter. Also, google "spell check" so you look a little less like the $%^& you are.
Man, these crazy white people are out of control. How much longer are we going to let them ruin our way of life?
It's gonna be great when the all the facts come out on the Cosco shooting and all you people who are talking from your a** are eating crow. Good job Metro and keep working hard to rid out society of these scum
3 crazy cops should have been disarmed, cuffed, & sent in for evaluation, and than arrested for second degree murder regarding the Scott killing. No doubt the three stooges moe larry & curly have criminal back grounds & were bullied in school. The sheriff should be impeached for condoning this senseless murder of a natural born, honorable loyal citizen of the united states. Scott's whole family served their country for your freedom incuding the 3 scum coward cops. Elect a new sheriff & clean up the Dept. Stand there like a target so we can shoot you in the heart & head so we don't miss. The only way you can justifiy, is if a person or persons is walking towrads you with a knife or gun & threatens to use it & in motion to kill you, they have to point it at you, and than only do you fear for your life. The sheriff I worked for would have arrested these 3 hot tempered, raged, crazed stooges for second degree murder, placed on trai, and most likely got 20 yrs in state proson. IF I am lucky enough to be on the jury, its 20 ys. I delieved many prisones to state prison, and when they arrive inside the walls, they melt. Reality sets in, the end of crazy cops. New sheriff will rid bad apples. The only way. Simple, you have good lawenforcement, & bad Lawendforcement.
Makes you wonder if these killers were terriost in uniform like major Hussien muslin terriost at fort hood texas, as the illegal in our white house defends him.
