A federal official says a wildfire that swept through Moapa has been contained.

Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Hillerie Patton said Wednesday that about 20 firefighters would spend the next several days watching for hot spots at the site of the 600-acre Moapa fire about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

Most of the 200 firefighters who battled the blaze after it broke out July 1 have been reassigned.

Officials say the fire was sparked by a work crew during hot, dry and windy conditions.

It burned six homes and 14 other buildings on almost a square mile of land. One Nevada prison inmate firefighter suffered heat exhaustion battling flames.

No other serious injuries were reported.
