Mount Charleston wildfire 95 percent contained

The Cathedral Fire in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area was 95 percent contained Sunday evening, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

BLM spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon said firefighters were released from the fire for Fourth of July duty, although 35 people have been assigned to the area for patrols and fire suppression.

Fire officials said they hoped to have the fire fully contained Sunday night.

No structures have been damaged and no injuries have been reported during the blaze, which burned 20 acres in the Mount Charleston wilderness, authorities said.

Most campgrounds in the area are open but the Cathedral Rock Picnic Area and Canyon, Old Ski Tow, Mary Jane Falls and Echo trailheads are closed, Cannon said.
