Letter to the Editor:

Reid essential to maintain state’s national stature

Nevada has two senators: Harry Reid, the most powerful person in the Senate, and John Ensign.

Sen. Reid has managed to bring to Nevada a lot of financial support and jobs, including help to open CityCenter. If you want something done in the Senate today, you have to go through Harry Reid.

On the other hand, we have Sen. Ensign, in charge of nothing anymore because of his shattered personal life, embarrassing himself, his family and the state. Sen. Ensign is no longer a person anyone cares to “go to.”

Getting rid of Sen. Reid would leave Nevada powerless in the Senate with a new senator in his place. That senator would be powerless, heading no committees and having no power. Joined with Sen. Ensign, it would leave Nevada one of the weakest states in Washington, D.C.

The states now have to look toward the desires of Nevada. If Sen. Reid loses his seat, we would be without any pull in Washington.

Is Sen. Harry Reid perfect? No. But he is better than anyone who would replace him. Purposely taking the state from the strongest position in the Senate to the weakest would be a foolish move.
