Nite Bite: McFadden’s gets a Mex-Irish makeover

McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon has made a New Year’s resolution to be fruitful and multiply in 2010.

Changes will be internal, says a source there, with each bar at the Rio eatery getting a little privacy, a lot of spiffing up and an unexpected new nationality.

One bar — formerly known as The Jameson Bar — will receive a south of the border-meets-south of Northern Ireland makeover. The new so-called “Pablo McFadden’s” will be a cantina-style margarita bar serving only tequila, Corona beer and frozen drinks to the tune of steel drums and acoustic guitars. A new wall will keep the sound where it needs to be while still providing access to McFadden’s and The Rio.

Inside the McFadden’s main room, another wall will split off the main bar from the performance space to create a little more intimacy for McFadden’s Pub and separate it off from the new McFadden’s Live, where the rowdy partying we’ve become accustomed to at the fratty watering hole will continue. Most of the changes should be in place by the 21st of this month and Pablo McFadden’s already is beginning to take visible shape.

While this Mex-Irish makeover does have us in the mood for a round of Mexican Car Bombs, we’re praying the cultural merge doesn’t extend to the kitchen. Shepherd’s fajitas? Baja soda bread? Shiver.
