Infant found injured

The father of a 3-month-old boy taken to a hospital in critical condition Monday was arrested Tuesday after an investigation revealed the infant suffered blunt force injuries and human bites, Metro Police said.

Andrew Mendoza, 21, of Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged with one count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm, eight counts of child abuse, and one count each of child neglect and child endangerment.

Police responded at about 7 p.m. Monday to the 3900 block of South Decatur Boulevard to investigate a report of an unresponsive infant. When officers arrived they learned medical personnel had taken the boy to the hospital.

Metro’s Abuse and Neglect Detail began an investigation and found the infant suffered injuries consistent with blunt force abdominal trauma and multiple injuries consistent with human bites. Authorities said the infant is hospitalized in critical condition.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
