North Las Vegas Police arrested the 40-year-old bailiff of former Judge Elizabeth Halverson on Sunday morning, accusing him of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Police received a report of a sexual assault and lewdness with a minor at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Johnnie Jordan, of Las Vegas, was arrested in connection with the assault at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of West Sahara Avenue.
Police say Jordan allegedly assaulted the girl in her home in North Las Vegas. Jordan was a friend of the alleged victim’s family, authorities said.
He is being held at the North Las Vegas Detention Center on two counts of sexual assault and two counts of lewdness with a minor under the age of 16.
Halverson had removed Jordan and brought in two individuals who were unlicensed to serve as bodyguards. The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline found there was no reason for Halverson to hire two men when all the other judges in the district only had a bailiff.
Halverson mistreated her staff, berated them with foul language and required her bailiff to massage her feet, neck and shoulders. The commission issued an order in November 2008 that permanently removed Halverson from the bench.
Halverson was suspended from the bench in July 2007. She lost a recent bid for re-election in the August primary election.
She faced a disciplinary hearing in August 2008 on charges of misconduct. After two weeks of hearings in August, the commission heard a dozen complaints, including that the judge was accused of sleeping on the bench and treating her staff like servants.
Police said anyone with information about the sex assault the case is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
