LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

U.S. government is overstepping its stated powers

This is in response to the Las Vegas Sun’s Monday editorial, “A states’ rights ruse”:

I strongly endorse what the Tea Party has proposed when you consider what the federal government has done in the areas of health care and illegal immigration.

The federal government exceeded its limited powers in passing health care legislation, leaving individual states no recourse but to file suit on the basis of the law being unconstitutional. As far as illegal immigration, numerous administrations have not enforced the law, resulting in states, such as Arizona, having no alternative but to “take the law into their own hands,” which they certainly have a right to do.

When will the Las Vegas Sun and its editorial writers understand and embrace the concept of “limited powers” of the federal government as our forefathers envisioned? Federal law is not the law of the land when it is not enforced or is unconstitutional.

What the Tea Party has proposed is relevant and necessary today because of the Obama administration’s blatant disregard of the Constitution and the intrusion into individual life, freedom and liberty.

Somehow I get the notion that if this was a GOP administration, the Las Vegas Sun would have no problem with what the Tea Party has proposed. Such hypocrisy!
