LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Overkill doesn’t make it easy to enjoy the holidays

Regarding JoAnne McMaster’s Wednesday letter to the editor, headlined “What keeps our city from having a Christmas spirit?”

Ms. McMaster writes that she is “surprised and disappointed that Las Vegas cares so little for the Christmas season,” but the most obvious and realistic reason for this is the economy and unemployment in Las Vegas.

The second most obvious reason is the fact that starting Labor Day weekend, most stores start displaying every kind of Christmas decoration you could want. With the exception of some Halloween and Thanksgiving things thrown in the mix, Christmas décor tops the list.

Add to that the radio stations that play Christmas music from Thanksgiving eve until midnight Dec. 25, and most of us are ready for Jan. 1. Last but not least is knowing that we are probably going to be paying for last Christmas until June or July!
