Las Vegas doctor fined for not reporting California sanctions

CARSON CITY – A Las Vegas doctor has agreed to pay a $5,000 fine and have her license placed on probation for not telling the state about her problems in California.

The state Board of Medical Examiners and Dr. Maryanne Phillips have settled a complaint filed against her a year earlier.

When Phillips renewed her license in Nevada, she didn't tell the examiners board about her sanctions in California.

California health officials placed her on three years of probation and she was ordered to enroll in a course for prescribing medicine and one in ethics. She was also prohibited from practicing out of her home.

California authorities found her guilty of gross negligence in prescribing excessive amounts of the drug Actiq, which two patients became addicted to. Phillips was accused of failing to keep accurate records of her prescriptions.

In the Nevada settlement, Phillips will receive a public reprimand, her license will be on probation until April 2012 and she must pay $3,447 to the board to cover costs.
