LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

What keeps our city from having a Christmas spirit?

On Sunday, my husband and I went to see the Christmas tree downtown. We were surprised to find that it was already half dismantled. On Christmas Day, radio stations stopped playing holiday music at 6 p.m.; the stores and restaurants did also.

In fact, there weren’t many decorations anywhere in the city this year, aside from places charging you money to see them (not counting Ethel M and the Bellagio conservatory, which don’t charge an admission fee).

If you look now, you probably won’t find a trace of holidays anywhere; it is almost as if Las Vegas wants to erase it altogether. Whatever happened to celebrating the season and leaving decorations up until New Year’s Day?

I, for one, will not take mine down until at least then, since this is how I grew up. I am surprised and disappointed that Las Vegas cares so little for the Christmas season, and I hope there are others, like myself, who truly enjoy this time of year.

What a sad comment on Las Vegas. To all the “worst of” lists we are on, maybe one day they will add “Worst City to Celebrate Christmas.”
