The Clark County Coroner’s Office has determined a bone found this morning on Legalla Lane near East Carey Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard is not human.

Metro Police responded to the area about 10 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of suspicious activity, police spokesman Bill Cassell said. Authorities said a man at the scene tried to run from police, but was apprehended.

Police said the animal bone was found while officers were taking inventory of the vehicle the man was in. The inventory is "standard procedure" before a vehicle is towed and impounded, Cassell said.

The bone was taken to the coroner's office, which determined this afternoon that the bone wasn't from a human.

"We do the inventory to make sure we get everything back (to the owner)," Cassell said. "When the officers found the bone, they said 'We better make sure it’s not human.'"

The man was arrested on narcotics possession charges, Cassell said.
