Morning fire damages home east of Las Vegas Strip

Firefighters have doused a blaze that destroyed a home near a golf course east of the Las Vegas Strip.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin says several pets died but no injuries were reported after Clark County and Las Vegas firefighters responded to the fire at 9:11 a.m. Monday.

Kulin said at least part of the at a two-story home at 980 Vegas Valley Drive near the Las Vegas Country Club collapsed during the fire. The location is southeast of the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue.

The blaze cast a thick plume of smoke into the air.
