Christmas house fire that caused $50,000 damage ruled accidental

Nobody injured; fire officials say blaze electrical in nature

House fire

A Christmas fire that did $50,000 damage to a house while the people who lived there were away has been ruled accidental, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials said.

After reports of smoke in the area at about 10:40 p.m., firefighters searched the neighborhood and found smoke coming from an upstairs window in the 4000 block of Compass Rose Way, near Rainbow Boulevard and Alexander Road, fire officials said.

Firefighters forced their way into the house and found the fire in the upstairs master bedroom, officials said. The blaze was put out in just a couple of minutes.

The fire appears to have been electrical in nature and started next to the bed, officials said.

The two adults, a teen and three dogs who live at the house were away at the time, officials said.

A portion of the master bedroom sustained heavy smoke and heat damage, and the rest of the room and upstairs had light to moderate smoke damage. Downstairs had an odor of smoke, officials said.
