Girl sues pilots in crash at Truckee Tahoe Airport

A California teenager is suing the two pilots in a September 2009 small plane crash at Nevada's Truckee Tahoe Airport, alleging the aircraft was too heavy with fuel.

The Nevada Appeal reported Saturday that Marilyn Mitchell seeks unspecified damages in the lawsuit filed Nov. 22 in California's Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Attorney Michael Danko of San Mateo, Calif., says Mitchell, then 14, suffered serious injuries in the crash involving pilots Karen and Steve Trolan and the Trolans' daughter. They're all from Los Gatos, Calif.

Danko argues the Cessna P206B crashed shortly after takeoff because it was too heavy for "thin air" at the airport altitude.

Karen Trolan tells the Appeal the aircraft was within weight and performance specifications, and that she and her family members were also badly hurt.
