A fight over a possible drug deal led to the shooting death of a man Sunday night at a Motel 6 near the Strip, Metro Police said.

Police said the victim, a white male, was shot multiple times shortly before 8:50 p.m. inside a motel room during the dispute. He was transported to

University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Police initially said the dispute was over a gun, but now police believe the victim and two suspects were engaged in a dispute involving narcotics.

During the altercation, police said one suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

No suspects are in custody this morning. Police said the two suspects — described as black men wearing dark clothing — fled the area in a white sport utility vehicle.

Motel 6 is near Tropicana Avenue and Dean Martin Drive. Police said the investigation is ongoing and no further information was released.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the victim.
